AKC Golden Retriever Puppies from OFA Health Tested Parents
Welcome to Sleepy Grove Golden Retrievers in Northwest Arkansas! Our passion is Golden Retriever Puppies and our goal is to produce the best AKC Golden Retriever puppies for service dog prospects, companions, performance, and conformation prospects. As Golden Retriever Puppy breeders, our tools to achieve these lofty goals lies in breeding for health, temperament, and structure.
AKC Champion Line Golden Retriever Puppies
Our AKC Golden Retriever Puppies are planned sometimes generations in advance. We adore beautiful, structurally sound Golden Retrievers. For our AKC Golden Retriever girls we usually select from AKC Champion or AKC Grand Champion stud dogs. This gives us a large selection of sires to choose from to compliment what we are improving on our girls.
OFA Health Tested Golden Retriever Puppies
With all these big beautiful AKC Champion and Grand Champion Golden Retriever studs to choose from, we narrow it down by doing genetic health research. We don't just want nice looking Golden Retrievers, we want nice looking Golden Retrievers that live full and healthy lives. We go with the stud dogs that have a long history in their lineage of passing OFA health tests going back for generations and generations.
Of those Champion boys with generations of health testing, we further narrow it down to the ones who come from lineages of dogs that live longer than average. This doesn't rule out cancer, but there seems to be evidence of some lines of dogs being able to resist cancer for longer than others. The best way to find these dogs is just by finding the ones who seem to live the longest and healthiest on average.
We hope by doing this, our puppies, and your new best friends will live longer than the breed average of 10-12 years.
Volhard Temperament Tested Golden Retriever Puppies
We are very interested in the temperament of the AKC stud dogs we choose, and that weighs heavily on our final decision of which lines to introduce into our program. We also have professional service dog trainers come evaluate each and every puppy using Volhard temperament testing. We use this and all the notes we take on each puppy to help decide which puppy fits best in which homes. This also helps us identify potential service dogs to match with service dog trainers and service dog homes.
Golden Retriever Service Dog Prospects
We work extra hard for our service homes to give the puppy the best chance of not washing out in training. If you were comfortable with it, you could let us know the type of behaviors you would need and we could work on getting them ready for that in the short 10 week timeframe they are here, we are very capable trainers. We have trained sit, spin, down, wait, manding, and more all before they went home at 10 weeks old. We had one puppy we kept out of the last litter that we had capable of doing AKC scentwork Novice Containers at 12 weeks after only a few days of training.
We have trained complex behaviors in older dogs also. We've trained them to go to the fridge, open it, get a bottle of water, bring it to you, and then go back to close the fridge door if it did not close on its' own. This only took a few weeks of training.
Our Golden Retriever Puppies are located in Arkansas, but we have delivered these Golden Retriever puppies to Dallas Texas, Austin Texas, Houston Texas, San Antonio Texas, California, Missouri, Oklahoma, Washington, Michigan, Louisiana, Tennessee, Illinois, and more!
